Dobór wyciągarki zależy głównie od masy pojazdu. Stosuj zasadę 1,5x, udźwig wyciągarki powinien wynosić co najmniej 1,5 razy więcej niż masa auta. Przykład: do pojazdu o masie 2 ton wybierz wyciągarkę min. 6500 lbs (ok. 2 tony).

Lina syntetyczna (np. Dyneema) jest lżejsza, bezpieczniejsza w użyciu (nie magazynuje energii) i łatwiejsza w obsłudze. Lina stalowa jest bardziej odporna na przetarcia, ale wymaga ostrożności i rękawic ochronnych.
